Allocation of 4000 Billion Tomans for the Purchase of Iranian Research Equipment

The Minister of Science, Research and Technology stated: This year, 4000 billion Tomans have been allocated for the purchase of Iranian-made research equipment, and universities can procure their equipment from companies approved by the Vice President for Science and Technology.

According to the Education Group of Borna News Agency, Dr. Mansour Gholami said in a meeting with the board of directors of Shahid Bahonar University: In 2018, one billion dollars of foreign finance was also allocated for the purchase of high-tech research equipment, and so far, among the country's universities, Sharif University of Technology has signed a contract for spending 100 million dollars of this credit.

The Minister of Science, continuing to commend the progress of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, said: Universities and higher education centers with a history in the provinces are the executive arm of the Ministry of Science in the provinces and, as a designated university, assist the Ministry of Science in supporting and supervising other universities, such as non-governmental universities and the boards of trustees of small universities.

He pointed to the specialized deficit of university credits in the past few years and said: In March of last year, with the cooperation of the Planning and Budget Organization, more than 90 percent of the universities' credits were allocated, and many debts were paid.

Dr. Gholami added: In 2018, in the approved budget law, the credits of research institutes and research centers increased by 35 percent; the credits of science and technology parks increased by 60 percent, and the total credits of higher education increased by 19 percent compared to 2017.

The Minister of Science emphasized: Universities should think about diversifying their sources of income alongside the government budget and have creative and innovative methods for attracting financial credit, and also not neglect well-known methods such as dedicated research income and attracting foreign students.

He emphasized the importance of teaching skills to students and familiarizing them with the specialized business environment, especially in the final semesters, and said: Currently, the internship of agricultural students has started in cooperation with the Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture and technical and engineering students in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, and its financial credit has also been defined.

Dr. Gholami concluded his remarks by emphasizing: University students should be trained as entrepreneurs and, in addition to the possibility of becoming faculty members in universities, should be prepared for other job opportunities.
